- The location of signs on commercial buildings
should conform with the traditional placement of signs on such
buildings.
- The size, scale, color, shape, and graphics
of commercial signs should be compatible with the building and
the surrounding area.
- Lighting should be subtle and be compatible
with the historic character of the district.
- Signs which identify home occupations
should be:
- Identification only (not advertising)
- Small
- Designed to be read at the entrance rather
than from the street
- Discreetly mounted against the building
- Signs should comply with all applicable ordinances
and regulations.
- Avoid internally lit signs.
- Avoid freestanding signs, especially in residential
areas.
- Billboards are not appropriate anywhere in
the district.
- Signs identifying a home occupation,
historic information, or neighborhood association membership should
not:
- Be individually lit
- Be freestanding
- Constitute advertising
- Avoid concealing architectural details with
signage.
- Signs which have a negative impact on surrounding
residential buildings should not be considered.
