On August 24, Channel 6 News ran an online story about the new Herron High School titled "New School Locates In Drug-, Prostitution-Ridden Neighborhood." The story started with the following line: "Indianapolis' newest charter school, Herron High School, is located in the middle of one of the city's worst neighborhoods for crime."
Naturally, many residents were outraged at this sensationalistic characterization of our neighborhood. Due to the volume of phone calls and emails, Channel 6 removed the article from the website and came to our park the following evening to gave HMP the opportunity to voice their opinions. Joanna Taft, Jennifer Jones and Michael Higgins were interviewed for the segment, and many concerned people came out to show their support.
