| General. One of Wallace’s jobs as As reenactors, the men of the 11th Indiana portray the life of a Civil War General Lew Wallace was a prolific author and attorney from Crawfordsville, Indiana. Wallace requested a field command in early 1861 and received a commission as Colonel of the 11th Indiana. The 11th Indiana was the first regiment from Indiana to respond to President Lincoln’s call for troops. Dressed in gray Zouave-style uniforms with red trim, the 11th performed drill in keeping with the Zouave tradition. Since the enemy chose gray for their uniform color, General Wallace designed new uniforms for the 11th using black wool. The new uniforms kept the Zouave styling and were actually |
